At Industrial Construction (Sussex) Ltd we are big on training and staff development!
In the last year, we have invested in more than 60 days of training across the company, from our Office and Admin staff, Site Supervisors and Onsite Operatives to our Senior Management Team, on a wide range of courses including new skills and refreshers.
Some of the training undertaken related to site safety, including Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Stair and Tower inspections and Cladboy training, along with refresher courses in IPAF CPDs and a number of members of staff also completed their SMSTS and SSSTS courses or CIOB Site Management Level 4.
Office skills developmed included Reception Skills, Business Administration, Level 3 Executive PA Specialist Certificate and upskilling our internal Marketing team in Digital and Social Media Marketing, using these skills they are working to find new ways to promote the business in a modern way.
We have also been upskilling and developing recently promoted senior managers in ILM Leadership and Management Level 5 to enable them to operate confidently at Senior Management and Director Level. Focusing on Organisational Leadership Skills; Managing Performance and Efficiency; and Strategic Thinking and Decision Making.
Two of our Estimating department carried out their NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations (Estimating) giving them a solid knowledge to progress their career in Estimating. One of our Contracts Managers has been carrying out his Skilled Worker qualifications by undertaking a Roof Sheeting and Cladding NVQ to ensure that his skills are fully up to date and finally one of our Supervisors has been consolidating his knowledge by completing a Level 3 Supervision NVQ, allowing him to step up and work closer with Contracts Managers.
We are proud that 40% of our senior management team are women and nearly 20% of our staff are under 30 years old, unlike many businesses within the construction industry.
We have employed from varying backgrounds, having identified the skills they possess from previous experience and new enthusiasm they could bring to our business.
We believe that training and education is an important factor in ensuring that the company can deliver the highest level of service at all times as well as safeguarding the company’s future. It is also vital for individual personal growth and for the growth of the Construction Industry.
